Everyone can enter a hypnotic state—and it’s easier than you might think.
By following this simple technique, you can relax your body and mind and ease your way into the calm, deeply focused state of hypnosis:
- Sit comfortably. Begin breathing gently at your own pace, with your eyes either open or closed—whatever helps you focus best. Relax your body. Take 10 deep breaths: inhale deeply through your nose and exhale fully through your mouth. This helps you gradually disconnect from the outside world.
- Open your eyes. With your head relaxed and still, look straight ahead. While keeping your eyelids open, roll your eyes upward—as if you’re trying to look at your own eyebrows. Hold your eyeballs upward. Keep breathing slowly. You might notice your eyelids fluttering slightly—that’s completely normal and actually a good sign.
- On your next inhale, close your eyelids while keeping your eye muscles directed upward. This helps your brain activate alpha waves and enter a relaxed state, making it easier to access the subconscious.
That’s it!
Watch Marisa Peer explain this simple technique in a very short video. There are, of course, other methods, but this is one of the most commonly used.
Tip: If you listen to guided meditations or visualizations on platforms like YouTube, try using this technique first to enter hypnosis—then begin your meditation. The experience will be much more effective, as your mind is more receptive to suggestions while in a hypnotic state.
